Excursions

There are various excursions on offer, organized by both Natuurlijk Schokland (Organization for Guided Tours on Schokland) and Flevo-landschap (Flevoland Natural Heritage Foundation).
If you need an English speaking guide or interpreter, let us know in advance. Of course, you may bring your own interpreter. Please, make clear what you have in mind, when making your reservation.
Flevo-landschap (Flevoland Natural Heritage Foundation) organizes the following excursions:
Walk around De Gesteentetuin (Rondwandeling door de Gesteentetuin)
Surrounded by the Schokland wood De Gesteentetuin takes you on a journey through time. It starts in the visitor’s center with an exhibition about the history of the earth, the ice ages and the history of Schokland. In the visitor’s center and in the garden, rocks and stones are shown that have been found when the polder was drained in 1942. They are rocks that the ice flows brought here from Scandinavia during the ice ages. The guided walk is scheduled every third Sunday of the month, starting at 2.30 pm.
Sawing Rocks in De Gesteentetuin (Stenen zagen in de Gesteentetuin)
Have you ever wondered about the name or origin of a stone or piece of rock you found somewhere? Bring it along to the visitor’s center of De Gesteentetuin (Geo-garden) and have a piece sawn off to see better what is inside. An expert may tell you more about it. You may compare your stone with the rocks on exhibition in the visitor’s center. Or you may buy a geode and have it opened with the saw and see the crystals inside. Stone sawing is scheduled every first Sunday of the month at the visitor’s center of De Gesteentetuin from 12 am to 4 pm.
Mouldy Stories in the Schokland Wood and De Gesteentetuin
(Zwamverhalen in het Schokkerbos en de Gesteentetuin)
During the mushroom season a guide tells you the secrets of the ‘garbage collectors’ in the woods. He shows you the nicest spots to discover the fungi and mushrooms. A fascinating tour for both young and old.
Spotting Mushrooms in the Schokland Wood (Paddenstoelen zoeken in het Schokkerbos)
Especially for children to go and discover where they can find the mushrooms. What are they? Why are they here? Who can find the largest or most beautiful mushroom? As a real explorer you look around for yourself. A guide explains everything about these remarkable creatures.

Farm Cart Tour of the Island
On every first and third Saturday of the months April through October a tour of the island in a Schokland farm cart is organized. Starting time is 2.30 pm at Museum Schokland.
